Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall. If cold winds keep up with hot ones and then back again we’ll all be as sick as we say we are when we excuse ourselves. Never call a woman your “muse” if the first thing you do when she leaves you is replace her. I left Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World at the end of the bed in a bookcase in June.

I took a deep breath and listened to the old brag of my heart.
